The Scurfield Cup was established to honour the legacy of Donald Edward Scurfield (1952–2017), who served as President of the Canterbury Ice Hockey Club for many years and made a lasting contribution to the club and the Australian ice hockey community.

JAM Studio was engaged to design a commemorative logo that captured the significance of the annual event while respecting the club's rich history and heritage. The final identity was created to seamlessly complement Canterbury Ice Hockey Club's established brand, providing a distinctive and timeless logo that celebrates the tournament and the legacy it represents.
